What do you think of 3D movies? 2-24-11

I think that 3D movies are good when they are computer animated. I have become really tired of the live action 3D feature films because 3D is still such a new technology that we really can’t use it to its full potential yet. A lot of companies are trying to cash in on the 3D technology early because they know it is a quick buck, but what they should really be doing is working with the technology more and perfecting the 3D look before they make any more films. They all look way to gimmicky to me. The majority of the 3D movies I have seen lately that were live action were horrible, maybe five percent of the actual movie has some 3D elements in them, maybe a giant flaming blast or something, and the rest of the film is just the drunken look of 3D that quite honestly gives me a headache to watch. Now when you get into films made for 3D such as Avatar then it works better. Because eighty percent of what you see on screen is all computer generated it makes the 3D feeling much more abundant and believable. The idea of 3D is such a cash cow to mainstream consumers that most companies don’t even worry about making a better product, and why should they when anybody will buy a television that says “3D” on the side of it. Many of the 3D televisions do not even work as they are described, you have to sit perfectly in front of it anywhere between six to eight feet away otherwise it doesn’t give you the 3D look, which is a pain if you have a family of more than one. So personally, until they perfect 3D they should stay away from full live action films.
